  • "Oyfn Pripetchik," a Yiddish song by M.M. Warshawsky, tells a story of a rabbi instructing his students the aleph-bet. By the late 1800s, it was a favorite among Central and Eastern European Jews, serving as a significant musical reminder of Europe before the Holocaust.

Around 1900, Jewish people felt safe and happy in the German Reich. They were protected by the imperial state. The catastrophe of 1914 and the destruction of the German Reich by the Western Allies put an end to this. Around 12,000 or more German Jews died as soldiers for their Kaiser and their Reich. Most Germans wanted the Kaiser back after 1918. Perhaps this could have prevented many bad developments after the war. - When Hitler came to power, the veterans of the Stahlhelm protested against the discrimination of their Jewish comrades through the Discrimination Act of 1935. This should not be forgotten either. Jews also had friends back then - but they had no chance to overcome the enemie...

      That is true.
We should remember the bad, and never forget it. but shouldn't forget the good either. There were bad people, as good ones.
Yet in WW2 the overhwelming majority of the german people either aupported hitler eagerly or didn't do nothing, which is a form of support non the less.

There is another, prescient stanza to the song:
    When, children, you grow older

How many tears lie in these letters
    And how much crying.

It's hard to put into words what happened during the Holocaust. Every second there, every moment, starts with 'why did they'. It's shocking to see some 'people' today with Nazi symbols. Makes you wonder if they're mocking the victims or if they'd want to repeat history. But, it's 'Never Again'

@@diegobortholoto8505 This type of propaganda is reminiscent of what led to the Holocaust-spreading lies about Jews. As I've mentioned before, the Gaza health ministry, controlled by Hamas, doesn't accurately differentiate between Hamas militants killed and civilian casualties. The reported number of Hamas members killed aligns closely with the overall death toll they announce. Moreover, how much value do you place on human life? Previously, you supported Hamas' actions on October 7th, when they subjected a baby to maximum temperatures in an oven while the mother watched, yet you remained silent. Additionally, mothers in Hamas are known for encouraging their sons to become martyrs

My great-great-grandfather was a Bohemian Jew living in Prague during the occupation of Czechoslovakia and only avoided getting sent to Terezín due to his marriage to a gentile Christian woman, which wasn't retroactively prosecutable in the occupied territories outside Germany proper. His is the only branch of the family we know of that survived.
Even though none of my family in the generations since has been Jewish, I can't help but feel a strong pull to that part of my heritage and would definitely pursue conversion if I lived somewhere with a Jewish community. Listening to Jewish music whether secular or liturgical tugs at my heart.

I sang this amazing song at parliament once (UK) and I cried so much. It’s hard to learn another language, especially in a month. I know Hebrew and at the time, no Yiddish. I learnt it because I’m Ashkenazi and that’s the language my ancestors spoke. The chief rabbi was there, mayor of London and thousands of people. It was a big ceremony for Yom Hashoah. For those who don’t know, it is Remembrance Day for all the 6 million Jews that died in the Holocaust. I love being Jewish and will never stop believing in Hashem. My Judaism ✡️ will never fade away
