One in Four Female Adolescents Is Infected with At Least One Sexually Transmitted Infection, New CDC Study Finds

A new CDC study indicates that one in four (26%) female adolescents in the United States has at least one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Led by CDC’s Sara Forhan, the study is the first to examine the combined national prevalence of common STIs among adolescent women in the United States.

The authors analyzed data on 838 female adolescents (aged 14-19) who participated in the 2003-2004 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), a continuous annual study that examines a nationally representative sample of the U.S. household population to assess a broad range of health issues. For this analysis, the teens were tested for . . .

We're a nation of skanks...wonderful. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with people? I considered myself pretty wild at one time, but I've never had an STI or an STD.

Part of the problem is that parents could really care less where their kids are or what they're doing, as long as they don't disrupt their life. Parents don't want to parent their children anymore - they want to be their best friend, which doesn't work the majority of the time, because the kid exploits the trust to their advantage.

And I don't understand the mentality of girls who want to have promiscuous sex at age 15 and younger. When I was 15, I wasn't interested in having sex...masturbation was a different story, but having sex w/multiple partners wasn't a thought that even crossed my mind. And when I started having sex, there was always protection involved. It sucks that young girls' priorities are messed up, but it sucks even more that apparently nobody realizes there are consequences to their actions.

That what happens when there is no discipline and when there is laxism and approval of hippie values like lack of hygiene, no sex with condoms, teenagers thinking they can fuck as great as porn studs without thinking of the risk that they can make a girl pregnant or transmit her an std. Irresponsible people always make irresponsible actions and their actions lead to catastrophic results. Many teenagers of today are fucking undisciplined and ungrateful dumbfuck cunts, yes you hear me and that is what I honestly think of them. Many of them are worth nothing. They are lazy, have no sense of duty, no morals, not a single appreciation of values that were set by their elder peers and their behavior is utterly disgusting. You want a society that goes forward, right? It is not with a society filled of many undisciplined and irresponsible teenage dumbfuck cunts that your country will evolve. Mine is in almost the same situation.

im not sure if i believe this one. if 1 in 4 girls have an sdi/sti, what about the guys too? they would get it from somewhere..

i think this is something to scare us.

and that is why we need to keep refusing to talk to kids about sex and if we do, then it's "abstinance only" and not about how to use birth control.

end sarcasm. :helpme:

I don't get why people that contract sexually transmitted disease are called names.

Just because they were infected doesn't mean anyone who hasn't been infected yet won't be.

It's a consequence of having multiple partners. Condoms aren't 100% nor is anything else.

Name calling really isn't needed. :hatsoff:

I'm tellin' ya, prudishness fucks with everything: you can't educate if you can't talk about it.

Why are girls/ women who want to wait considered prudes? It's her choice.

All the money put into education about anything will only work if the people want to listen and learn.

I wasn't speaking to individuals, but society as a whole. Sex is taboo, and for many religions, wrong in most cases. Hence, it's tough to talk about and educate.

Prudishness isn't the right word...don't have a replacement at the moment.

Well, if the person is religious and their religion says it's wrong and so on, they should be following their religion or they are hypocrites.

You can only educate those who will listen. Not everyone will listen, it's a fact. ;)

I find it more than just a little disturbing that they are starting to administer HPV and genital wart vaccines to 11- and 12-year-old girls. When I was that age, all the other kids, both boys and girls, were still thinking that the opposite sex was the enemy. NEVER would the thought of getting vaccines for STD's have occurred to any of us at the time.
